Team Colours Without the Team T-Shirts: A Simple Idea for Corporate Golf Days & Events
Share
You've organised the venue. The teams are sorted. The golf, games or activities are planned.
Now you'd like everyone to look and feel like they're part of a team.
So, naturally, somebody suggests T-shirts or polo shirts.
And suddenly you're asking 40 people what size they are.
Someone wants an XL rather than a large. Someone hasn't replied. Someone changes teams at the last minute. The shirts need printing. They need sorting. They need distributing.
All because you wanted Team Blue to look different from Team Yellow.
There might be a much simpler way.
Give each team a different colour of shoelace
It sounds almost too simple.
Team Blue wears blue laces. Team Yellow wears yellow. Team Pink wears pink. Team Green wears green.
Everyone can still wear their own clothes and their own shoes, but there's an instant little flash of colour identifying which team they belong to.
No clothing sizes.
No changing outfits.
No boxes of leftover T-shirts in sizes nobody wants.
Just a pair of coloured shoelaces for each person.
And for a corporate golf day in particular, we think it could be rather brilliant.
A little bit of team spirit on the first tee
Golf days already lend themselves perfectly to team colours.
Imagine everyone arriving and finding a welcome bag or player pack waiting for them.
Alongside the tees, scorecard, refreshments and whatever else you've chosen is a pair of shoelaces in their team colour.
Before everyone heads to the first tee, they lace up their golf shoes.
Suddenly you have your teams.
It creates a bit of fun before the competition has even started - and it should make for some rather fabulous team photographs too.
And because shoelaces are small and lightweight, they don't take over the welcome bag. They're simply a little unexpected detail.
Team colours without the team T-shirts
There's a practical advantage here too.
Clothing creates logistics.
You need sizes. You may need men's and women's fits. You need enough of everything. And unless you're particularly fortunate, somebody will inevitably end up with something that doesn't fit quite as they'd hoped.
Shoelaces are considerably less complicated.
Choose the colours, allocate the teams and pop the appropriate pair into each person's bag.
No clothing sizes required.
For an organiser dealing with dozens - or potentially hundreds - of guests, sometimes the simplest ideas are the best ones.
It doesn't have to be a golf day
This idea started with corporate golf days for us, but the more we thought about it, the more possibilities appeared.
Different coloured laces could work for company away days, charity challenges, walking events, sports days, tournaments, group trips and team-building events.
You could even use company or event colours rather than traditional team colours.
And unlike a coloured sticker or disposable wristband, everyone gets something useful to take home afterwards.
The event may last a day.
The shoelaces don't have to.
Make the welcome bag part of the experience
We love the idea of the laces being presented as part of the event rather than simply handed out.
A little card could say:
Welcome to Team Blue.
Or:
Lace up. You're on Team Yellow.
For golf:
Your team colour for today. Lace up and good luck!
And for something more competitive:
These are your colours. Wear them proudly.
The presentation can be as simple or as special as the occasion requires.
For corporate events, colours could potentially be chosen to complement the company, tournament or event theme, with presentation cards or sleeves helping everything feel considered and personal.
A goodie bag gift people might actually use again
Goodie bags can be difficult.
You want to give people something memorable, but preferably something that won't be abandoned in a drawer - or worse, thrown away as soon as they get home.
A pair of colourful shoelaces is small, practical and a little unexpected.
Someone might wear their team laces again for their next round of golf. Put them into their trainers. Give them to their children. Or keep wearing them simply because they discovered they rather liked having bright yellow laces in their shoes.
That, to us, is far more interesting than another piece of disposable event merchandise.
Sometimes the smallest details are the ones people remember
A great corporate golf day or team event isn't made by one enormous gesture.
Often, it's all the little touches.
The welcome.
The organisation.
The competition.
The laughter.
The photograph of Team Pink looking far too pleased with themselves.
And perhaps the unexpected pair of shoelaces waiting in everyone's bag when they arrive.
At Love Your Laces, we have a simple philosophy: changing something as small as your shoelaces can completely change the personality of your shoes.
It turns out they might be rather good at changing the personality of an event too.
