Best Laces for Golf Shoes UK: Comfort, Grip & Style Guide
If your golf shoes feel loose, uncomfortable or a little unstable on the course, there's a good chance the shoes themselves aren't actually the problem. Most golfers never think about their laces but the right pair can make a surprisingly big difference to how you feel over 18 holes.
Why laces matter more in golf than any other sport
Golf is a game built on balance, stability and consistency. Every shot requires your feet to be planted securely, and your laces are what keep your foot locked into your shoe throughout your swing. Worn or poorly fitted laces mean heel movement at the worst possible moment, pressure points building up over a long walk around the course, and constantly stopping to re-tie. Good laces mean a secure, comfortable fit from the first tee to the last green.

What are the best laces for golf shoes in the UK?
For regular golfers, particularly in the UK where wet grass and soft ground are just part of life, polyester laces are the clear winner. They're strong and durable, water-resistant, and they hold their tension far better than cotton over the course of a round. Cotton laces are lovely for everyday wear but they absorb moisture, stretch and go slack - not ideal when you're mid-swing on a soggy Tuesday morning in Scotland!
Round laces are also worth considering over flat ones. They stay tied more reliably, distribute pressure more evenly across the foot, and tend to give a more consistent fit throughout the round. And if you've never tried a slightly thicker lace, it's an underrated upgrade - easier to tighten firmly and much more secure feeling once tied.
The quickest upgrade most golfers never make
You don't need new golf shoes. A lace swap takes under two minutes and can genuinely transform how your existing shoes feel. Better fit, more comfort, improved stability through your swing - all for the price of a coffee. As someone who (currently) plays off a 28.9 handicap, I'll take any marginal gain I can get!
Golf is a game of small margins. Your laces might seem like the last thing worth thinking about, but once you've experienced the difference a good pair makes, you'll never go back to the originals.
